The 1480 slip yoke operates under higher torque than the 1310/1350 series -- the spline interface at 1.562" pitch diameter and 16 teeth is sized for medium-heavy truck transfer case and transmission outputs. The 6.812" C/U-joint to end provides generous slip travel, suitable for trucks where significant axle travel is expected during use.
A common installation error on 1480 slip yokes is failing to pack the spline cavity with grease before first installation. Unlike light-duty yokes where factory-applied grease is sufficient for the first service interval, 1480 applications under high torque cycles need the spline bore fully coated. Apply a liberal amount of NLGI 2 EP grease into the bore before sliding the yoke onto the transmission output shaft.
