Category Information

An end yoke — also called a companion yoke or pinion yoke — is the splined component that slides onto the output shaft of a differential or transfer case and holds the rear U-joint of the driveshaft. It is retained by a pinion nut and transmits torque from the driveshaft into the axle’s ring-and-pinion. The U-joint cross sits inside the end yoke ears, with bearing cups retained by either internal or external snap rings depending on the application.

End yokes are series-specific and spline-specific — you must match both dimensions:

U-joint series — sets the bearing cup bore diameter (1310, 1330, 1350, 1410, 1480, etc.)
Spline count and diameter — must match the output shaft exactly (e.g., 29-spline 1.500", 35-spline 1.625")
Snap ring style — Inner (ISR) or Outer (OSR) must match the yoke bore machining

Universal Driveshafts carries end yokes for all major domestic and import axle families, including Dana 44, Dana 60, Dana 70, GM 10-bolt and 14-bolt, Ford 8.8" and Sterling, Chrysler 9.25" and 11.5", and Toyota 7.5" and 8" IFS axles. We also stock OEM-matched end yokes for commercial truck rear axles across all common series.

End yoke replacement is necessary when the bearing cup bores are worn out-of-round (causing the cross to rock in the bore), when the snap ring grooves are damaged, or when upgrading to a higher series for increased torque capacity. A 1310-series end yoke can be replaced with a 1350-series unit if the spline count matches — only the U-joint cross and the opposing flange yoke need to be upgraded at the same time.
