Early Corvette drivetrains used U-bolt U-joint retention rather than snap rings or strap bolts -- a design that requires a specific yoke ear geometry with a machined groove for the U-bolt saddle. The 3103-271 preserves this factory geometry, making it the correct replacement when rebuilding an original C1 or C2 drivetrain. Substituting a standard snap-ring or strap-bolt yoke in a U-bolt application will cause the U-joint to migrate axially under load and ultimately separate. At 4.875" center-to-end, this is one of the shorter 1310 yokes -- the compact Corvette driveshaft tunnel made a longer yoke unnecessary. Torque U-bolts to factory spec (typically 11--14 ft-lb on 1310-series hardware) and replace U-bolt saddle plates if they show indentation wear.
