The Mazda RX-8 automatic uses a 23-tooth output shaft at 1.201" pitch diameter -- a specification used exclusively on Mazda platforms and not shared with Nissan, Toyota, or domestic applications. The "S" suffix indicates the shoulder has been machined off the hub, which is required because the RX-8 automatic tailshaft bore does not have clearance for the raised shoulder found on the base 3103-23 part. Installing the non-machined version will prevent the yoke from seating fully on the output shaft, leaving a gap at the seal housing and causing immediate oil leakage. Confirm your transmission is the automatic variant -- the RX-8 manual uses a different yoke specification. Pair with a 1310-series U-joint at the driveshaft forward end.
