Full Description
A splined midship tube shaft is the inner sliding member of a two-piece driveshaft assembly -- it allows the shaft to change length as the drivetrain moves without changing the U-joint angles. Using a midship shaft with the wrong bearing diameter is a common installation error: the center support bearing bore must match the 1.574" bearing diameter on this part exactly.
- Spline: 15/16 x 1.500" -- heavy-duty profile for high-torque two-piece driveshaft applications
- Spline length: 3.000" engagement depth -- verify the mating stub shaft provides at least this much spline overlap at maximum droop
- Tube: 3.000" OD x 0.083" wall -- this wall thickness requires careful heat management during welding to prevent distortion
- End to weld: 10.625" -- overall dimension from the splined end to the weld junction on the tube
- Bearing diameter: 1.574" -- match to center support bearing bore for correct press fit
- Style: Slip (outer sliding member engages internally)
When replacing a center support bearing on a two-piece shaft using this midship tube, press the new bearing onto the 1.574" journal until it is fully seated against the shoulder. An under-seated bearing will allow the inner race to rotate on the shaft journal, rapidly destroying both the bearing and the shaft surface.
