Q: Can I use 3-28-157 on a 1310 series driveshaft?
A: No. The trunnion ear bore on a 1350 weld yoke is machined for the 1.188" cap diameter of the 1350/1410 U-joint family. Installing a 1310 U-joint (1.062" caps) into a 1350 ear bore leaves the caps undersize in the bore, causing immediate cap fretting and bearing failure. Always match the yoke series to the U-joint series across the entire driveshaft.
Q: What tube specification does 3-28-157 require?
A: The butt diameter of 2.812" pilots into a 3.000" OD tube with 0.095" wall thickness. The butt must be a snug fit inside the tube before welding -- excessive gap between butt and tube bore weakens the weld joint. The 2.000" C/U-joint to weld dimension is the yoke length before the weld face; add this to the tube length when calculating the overall driveshaft assembly length.
