Shop Notes: 1226-22 -- 1251 Weld Yoke, 2.140"" Butt

If you are on the floor building a custom driveshaft and need a 1251 series weld yoke to accept 2.370" OD x 0.065" wall tube, the 1226-22 is your part. Butt diameter is 2.140"", center u-joint to weld face is 1.750"". Material is steel. It ships machined and ready to weld -- no cleanup bore required.

Tube Compatibility Check

The bore is machined for 2.370" OD tube at 0.065" wall. Using a different tube OD -- even 0.020" off -- will cause a loose fit that traps weld gas and weakens the joint. If your tubing is metric or slightly non-standard, measure with calipers before ordering.

Series Interface

The 1251 series u-joint pockets match standard 1.062" cap-diameter crosses used in light-duty import and compact truck drivetrain applications. Using a different series yoke at the other end of the shaft is fine as long as the mating u-joint is also a cross-series design -- but keep both ends consistent when possible for balanced angularity.

Welding & Balancing

Heat-treated steel construction delivers the torsional rigidity required for heavy-duty propshaft applications, resisting deflection under load. After welding, spin-balance the shaft assembly to at least 0.25 oz-in residual imbalance per balancing plane -- less for high-RPM or highway applications.
