- The 1551 series is a metric specification covering certain Mazda RWD and 4WD transmissions -- do not substitute a 7260 or 7290 domestic series yoke even if the spline count appears similar
- 20/22-spline dual count allows fitment in 20-spline or 22-spline Mazda output shafts -- count the output splines before ordering
- Counterbore of 0.625" pilots against the output bearing retainer -- this centering feature must align correctly to prevent lateral yoke movement during operation
- Hub diameter 1.375" -- match to the Mazda transmission output seal; an oversized or undersized hub OD causes immediate fluid leak
Mazda OE-size yokes are required for direct replacement -- aftermarket yokes with different hub ODs or counterbore diameters will not seal correctly in the OEM housing. When ordering for a Mazda RX-7 or Mazda pickup, confirm the transmission type and model year as several variants were produced with different output configurations.
