- 1550 series is rated above 1480 -- the larger trunnion assembly handles higher torque and shock loads in medium-heavy truck applications
- Aluminum 1550 yokes are used where rotating mass reduction is a priority on class 4-6 trucks -- the aluminum reduces unsprung weight on the driveline but requires more careful torque calculations
- The 4.757" butt diameter must fit snugly inside the 5.000" tube bore; verify tube ID before pressing for weld
- C/U-joint to weld of 2.750" is shorter than the 1330/1350/1410 aluminum yokes (3.000") -- adjust total shaft length accordingly
- Pair with a 1550 series U-joint (1.375" cap diameter)
Post-weld heat treatment is not recommended for 6061-T6 aluminum yoke assemblies -- the welding process creates a heat-affected zone that reduces local hardness. Design the system with appropriate safety factors to account for this HAZ effect on fatigue life.
