5526-506A – Weld Yokes – 1550 Series – Butt Dia 4.755″ – Tube Dia Wall 5.000X0.125

The 5526-506A is dimensionally very close to the Spicer-branded 5526-50A -- same tube spec (5.000"x0.125"), same butt diameter (4.755"), same series (1550), same material (aluminum) -- but with a 3.000" CL-to-weld versus 2.750" on the Spicer version. This 0.250" difference changes the effective shaft length when these two parts are substituted for each other. The additional weld distance also provides marginally more thermal buffer between the weld and the U-joint journal area during aluminum MIG welding.

• 0.250" more CL-to-weld than 5526-50A -- measure original yoke before ordering to determine which is correct for your application
• 4.755" butt diameter -- 0.245" step from 5.000" OD; creates moderate press-fit in the 0.125" wall tube bore
• Aluminum construction -- requires clean oxide-free tube bore and correct aluminum MIG wire (4043 or 5356)
• 1550-series U-joint ear bores; confirm the joint series before pressing in the replacement joint

Tip: when replacing an aluminum weld yoke, inspect the 5.000" tube for corrosion pitting at the weld zone. Aluminum tube that has been welded and exposed to road salt or moisture over many seasons develops pitting at the heat-affected zone edge -- a pitted tube bore will cause the replacement yoke to sit off-center even with a properly sized butt diameter. Skim-machine the bore back to round if pitting exceeds 0.010" depth before fitting the new yoke.
