3-53-1821 -- UDS Fixed Midship Shaft, 10x1.500" Spline, 3.500" Tube, 1.574" Bearing
Fixed-style midship shafts carry splines but do not telescope -- the splines mate with a companion bore in the opposite end of the front driveshaft section, and longitudinal adjustment is handled elsewhere in the assembly (usually a slip yoke at the transmission end). The 3-53-1821 provides 2.000 inches of spline length (10-spline, 1.500-inch diameter) at the mating end, and welds into a 3.500-inch OD, 0.083-inch wall tube at the shaft end.
The 1.574-inch bearing journal is where the center support bearing rides. This diameter must match the inner bore of the center bearing exactly -- a loose fit allows shaft movement that accelerates bearing wear, while an interference fit makes assembly difficult without a press. Butt diameter: 3.344 inches. End-to-weld: 4.031 inches (total length from open spline end to weld face).
