Full Description
The 2-53-691 is a stub shaft midship spline used in two-piece driveshaft assemblies. The splined stub -- 1.375-inch diameter with 16 splines -- mates with the slip sleeve of the front shaft section, providing the axial travel point at the driveshaft midpoint rather than at the transmission. This design is common on longer-wheelbase trucks and vans where the driveshaft geometry requires the slip joint to be located away from the transmission tailshaft.

The thin 0.065" wall tube requires attention during welding. Low heat input and a proper preheat procedure reduce distortion. Confirm the spline count on the mating sleeve (16 splines) before assembly -- 16 and 17 spline configurations look similar but will not engage correctly.
