6061-T6 aluminum is the standard choice for performance driveshaft yokes -- it reduces rotational inertia versus steel while maintaining adequate yield strength for street and mild off-road applications. On the 1330 series, the aluminum yoke is appropriate for applications where the original steel yoke was a weight and vibration concern. The 5.000" tube OD with 0.125" wall is a large-diameter, thin-wall aluminum section -- welding requires a TIG process with appropriate preheat; MIG on this wall thickness risks burn-through and heat-affected zone softening that reduces fatigue life. After welding, the assembly must be spun-balanced before installation. An out-of-balance aluminum shaft will develop fatigue cracks at the weld toe much sooner than an equivalent steel shaft. Pair with a 1330 series U-joint for a complete assembly.
