The 6-28-467 is the long-CL-to-weld variant in the 1710 series for 4.000"x0.134" tube -- 0.657" longer than the standard 6-28-347 (3.031" CL-to-weld). This extended geometry is used when the driveshaft assembly requires additional clearance between the weld joint and adjacent chassis components, or when the 1710-series coupling yoke design demands the extra distance for journal access during service. The 1710 series uses a 1.938" U-joint cap diameter, the second-largest in the standard Spicer on-highway catalog after the 1810.

At 3.688" CL-to-weld on a 4.000" tube, the yoke body is elongated compared to lighter-series designs. This mass contributes to rotational inertia and requires precise balance after welding -- a 1 oz-in residual imbalance at 1710-series operating speeds produces perceptible vibration at the cab. Balance specifications for 1710 assemblies are typically 0.05 oz-in per correction plane. This Spicer weld yoke requires a 1710-series U-joint (1.938" cap); the physically similar 1610 cap (1.875") will not fully seat and will cause immediate cap walk-out failure.
