3-28-777 -- 1350 Weld Yoke for 2.000x0.120 Heavy-Wall Tube
The 3-28-777 is an unusual 1350-series application: a 2.000" OD tube at 0.120" wall -- a heavy-wall small-diameter specification used where impact resistance and torsional stiffness in a compact package take priority over weight or critical speed. This combination is found in off-road auxiliary drive shafts, short driveshaft stubs, and industrial drive applications where the 2.000" envelope fits the chassis but the 1350 joint capacity is required.
The 1.766" butt diameter is derived from the 0.120" wall: 2.000" - 2x0.120" = 1.760" bore; 1.766" butt provides 0.006" interference. The 1.750" CL-to-weld is consistent with compact-body 1350-series geometry. At 2.000" OD with 0.120" wall, the critical speed for a 30" span is approximately 4,400 RPM -- adequate for short shafts in moderate-speed applications. For longer spans exceeding 24", a two-piece shaft with a center support bearing is recommended to keep operating speed below 75% of the calculated critical speed. This weld yoke requires a 1350-series U-joint at 1.188" cap.
