The 250-28-17 is a Spicer-branded SPL250-series weld yoke sized for 5.197"x0.236" tube -- a large-diameter, thick-wall specification used on heavy commercial driveshafts. The 4.724" butt diameter requires precise tube preparation: the tube end must be cut square to within 0.005" total runout, and the butt face must be cleaned of mill scale before MIG welding. The 4.094" centerline-to-weld dimension positions the weld joint well back from the U-joint working area, providing sufficient heat-affected zone clearance that post-weld distortion does not influence U-joint clearance. Weld using an E70S-6 wire or equivalent and maintain inter-pass temperature below 350 degrees F to avoid heat treating the SPL250 joint trunnion inadvertently.
