Two-Piece Driveshaft Midship Component: 2-40-1811
Converting a single-piece driveshaft to a two-piece layout -- or rebuilding an existing multi-piece shaft -- requires a stub shaft with a precisely dimensioned carrier bearing journal. The 2-40-1811 delivers: " bearing journal, 16 X 1.375" splines (2.250" engagement), and a weld-ready 2.375" butt end for 2.500" tube.

Carrier Bearing Fitment
Center support bearings are specified by their bore ID. The 2-40-1811 presents a " journal -- look up a CSB with a bore ID equal to this value (or within bearing-fit tolerances: H7/k6 for a press fit, H7/h6 for a running fit). Pressing a CSB with the wrong bore ID will either score the journal surface or leave the bearing loose, both of which cause vibration and early failure.
Spline Engagement & Slip Travel
This slip-style stub shaft (telescoping splined section absorbs driveline length changes). With 2.250" of spline engagement, there is sufficient torque-carrying contact area for standard passenger and light truck applications. Grease the splines before assembly with a high-pressure NLGI 2 grease to prevent fretting corrosion under cyclic torque loads.
Assembly Notes
- Press CSB onto " journal using an inner-race driver.
- Weld tube to 2.375" butt end -- maintain full penetration and control heat input.
- Check TIR at journal after welding -- reject if above 0.003".
- Dynamic balance the completed shaft assembly.
