Midship Stub Shaft for Two-Piece Driveshafts -- 2-40-1741
Two-piece driveshafts in long-wheelbase trucks and SUVs rely on a midship stub shaft to support the driveline at a center carrier bearing. The 2-40-1741 is machined to a " bearing journal for precision CSB fitment, features a 16 x 1.250" spline connection, and includes a 1.844" butt diameter for welding to 2.000 OD tube.

This stub shaft uses a slip-style stub shaft (telescoping splined section absorbs driveline length changes). Choosing between fixed and slip styles depends on your driveline's slip travel requirements -- confirm with your driveshaft engineer if unsure. Installing the wrong style can cause binding, vibration, or catastrophic failure under vehicle movement.
Bearing Journal Precision
The " journal is the controlling dimension for CSB selection. Measure the journal with a micrometer before ordering a bearing -- confirm the bearing bore matches within tolerance. After pressing the CSB onto the journal, mount the bracket and check that the bearing is perpendicular to the shaft centerline. Any angular misalignment accelerates bearing wear and creates a vibration resonance at certain shaft speeds.
