Center Support Shaft Section -- 2-40-1701-1
Multi-piece driveshafts depend on a precision midship stub shaft to maintain alignment between the carrier bearing and the propshaft tube. The 2-40-1701-1 provides a " bearing journal, a 16 X 1.375" spline section (2.625" long), and a 1.766" butt diameter for 2.000" tube welding -- everything needed for a correct two-piece shaft assembly.

Why the Bearing Journal Dimension is Critical
The center support bearing must press onto a journal that is within a few ten-thousandths of an inch of the bearing bore. The 2-40-1701-1's journal is ground to " -- use this measurement to look up the correct CSB part number. A mismatched bearing diameter is the most common cause of premature CSB failure and driveshaft vibration.
Tube Welding
The butt end accepts 2.000 OD tubing. Clean the tube bore and yoke butt before fitting. Tack at four positions, check runout, then complete the weld. Post-weld TIR at the bearing journal should be below 0.003" before the CSB is pressed on.
Style: Slip
This is a slip-style stub shaft (telescoping splined section absorbs driveline length changes). Match the style to your driveshaft layout -- using a fixed stub where a slip stub is required will bind under suspension travel and can fracture the shaft.
