The 2-28-1177 completes the 1330-series 3.000" tube family with the thin-wall (0.065") variant. The 0.031" butt diameter increase (2.875" versus 2.844" on the 0.083" wall version) reflects the thinner wall producing a larger bore diameter, requiring the proportionally larger pilot for consistent centering. The 1.719" CL-to-weld is identical to the 3.000"x0.083" variant (2-28-1697), confirming the CL is a joint-series characteristic, not a tube characteristic.

The thinner wall (0.065") on the 2-28-1177 application provides better resistance to secondary critical frequency resonance in some mid-range operating conditions compared to the thicker wall, because the thinner wall has slightly different flexural characteristics. This is a minor technical point -- for production repair work, either wall is acceptable if the original shaft used the same wall. For a new build, select wall thickness based on impact exposure: use 0.083" for vehicles exposed to road debris, trail driving, or frequent load cycles; use 0.065" for smooth-road street-only applications where weight reduction is preferred. This 1330-series weld yoke requires the Spicer 5-3250X equivalent 1330 U-joint at 1.062" cap OD.
