Two-piece driveshaft systems exist for a reason — on longer vehicles, a single-piece shaft would need to rotate at a speed that creates resonance and vibration that simply can’t be tuned out. By splitting the shaft at a carrier bearing midpoint, engineers can keep each section operating below its critical speed while still delivering power efficiently from the transmission to the rear axle. The midship shaft and its stub shaft companion are the core of this system, and their dimensional accuracy directly affects how well the carrier bearing aligns, how true the overall shaft runs, and how long the U-joints at each end survive.
