Strap kits are the preferred U-joint retention method in many OEM and performance applications because they offer a lower profile than U-bolts, distribute clamp load more evenly across the bearing cap, and are less prone to the loosening that can occur with U-bolts under sustained vibration. The critical variable is torque — under-torqued straps allow the bearing cap to move, accelerating wear and eventually allowing the joint to separate. Over-torqued straps crack and fail without warning. We stock strap kits in the sizes that correspond to the major U-joint series, with hardware that’s rated for the application and dimensionally correct for a proper fit against the yoke ear face.
