The 7290 series is a GM-standard heavy-duty weld yoke specification used extensively on GM trucks, vans, and SUVs with larger-diameter driveshaft tubes. The 7290 U-joint uses a 1.125" cap diameter -- significantly larger than the 1.062" 1310 cap -- and carries considerably higher torque capacity. The 2926-41 fits a 4.000"x0.083" tube; at 3.844" butt diameter, the pilot provides a tight, self-aligning fit in the tube bore. The 2.000" CL-to-weld is a balanced dimension for this tube size -- long enough to allow proper weld cooling away from the joint, compact enough to keep the overall assembly length controlled.

If the original GM truck driveshaft used a 7290 U-joint and the yoke is being replaced due to fretting corrosion at the ear bores, always bore-check the yoke ears before installing a new joint. 7290 ear bores corrode in a slightly oval pattern -- even 0.003" of oval distortion will cause the needle bearing cup to rock and fail within months of reinstallation.
