Q: Why is the 2625-25 butt diameter 2.375" rather than 2.344"?
A: The 2.375" butt diameter corresponds to the 2.500"x0.065" tube's bore, which is nominally 2.370" (2.500" minus 2x0.065" = 2.370"). The 0.005" butt-to-bore clearance is intentional for slide-fit assembly. The 2.344" butt on the 2626-25M corresponds to the 0.083" wall tube bore (2.334" nominal), which is significantly smaller -- these two butt diameters are NOT interchangeable between tube walls.
Q: Is there a meaningful performance difference between 0.065" and 0.083" wall at 2.500" tube?
A: At normal production driveshaft RPM, both walls provide adequate torsional stiffness at 2.500" OD. The 0.083" wall provides approximately 27% more wall-section area, offering better resistance to denting from road debris and a marginally higher column buckling load -- relevant only in severe off-road conditions. For standard passenger car and light-truck use, the 0.065" wall is entirely adequate.
Q: What U-joint does the 2625-25 require?
A: 7260 series, 1.125" cap OD. The 2.500" tube in the 7260 series is an unusual combination -- most driveshaft shops will default to suggesting a 1310 or 1330 joint for 2.500" tube.
