The 6-28-407 scales the 1710 series up to a 4.500" tube OD -- a large-diameter, thin-wall specification providing high critical speed for long commercial driveshaft spans. The 4.234" butt diameter is the same pilot used on the 1810-series 6.5-28-117, reflecting the identical tube bore at 4.500"x0.134" wall. The difference between 1710 and 1810 yokes at this tube size is entirely in the U-joint end: the 1710 uses a 1.938" cap while the 1810 uses a larger cap. The 3.031" CL-to-weld is the standard for Spicer heavy-commercial weld yokes in the 3.000"--4.500" tube class.
