Universal Joint Cross for Staked Series Driveshaft -- UJ2788U
Replacing a worn u-joint cross is one of the most cost-effective driveline maintenance tasks -- but only if you install the correct series cross. The UJ2788U is a STAKED series cross with a 1.062" cap diameter and 3.464" overall width, designed for STAKED series driveshaft driveshafts. Lubrication: sealed (pre-lubricated, no grease fitting).

How to Identify Your Correct Series
Measure across the cap OD on your old cross -- STAKED series measures 1.062". Also measure overall width (3.464") and confirm the snap-ring groove style matches. If your yoke has a different cap bore diameter, you need a different series cross -- do not force a mis-sized cross into the yoke bore.
Replacement Procedure Summary
- Support the driveshaft -- do not let the shaft hang by the u-joint during removal.
- Remove snap rings from all four cap pockets.
- Use a u-joint press or C-clamp to drive each cap out by pressing the opposite cap through.
- Clean the yoke bores and check for wear or out-of-roundness.
- Press in the new UJ2788U cross, seating caps squarely and re-installing snap rings.
When to Replace
Replace the cross when you detect: clunking on acceleration or deceleration, vibration at specific speeds, visible rust or grease leakage at the caps, or any detectable play when rocking the driveshaft. A failed u-joint can cause complete driveshaft separation -- do not defer replacement.
