When fabricating a GM truck driveshaft with 3.000" tube and 7290 joints, the balance limit is typically 0.10 oz-in residual imbalance after welding. Hot-straightening is not recommended on 7290 weld yoke assemblies -- the weld yoke material is not rated for the thermal cycling involved in straightening, and distorted assemblies should be scrapped rather than re-formed. Maintain proper welding technique and fixturing to hold runout within 0.010" total on the first attempt.
