Category Information
A flange yoke is the bolted-end component that connects a driveshaft to a fixed flange on a differential, transfer case, or transmission output. Unlike a slip yoke — which telescopes into the transmission — a flange yoke bolts rigidly to a companion flange, providing a solid rotational connection at the end of the shaft where no axial movement is required. The U-joint cross sits inside the flange yoke ears, transmitting torque through the bearing cups.
Flange yoke selection requires matching three parameters:
Series — the U-joint series the yoke is designed for (1310, 1330, 1350, 1410, 1480, 1550, 1610, 1710, SPL, etc.). This determines the bearing cup bore diameter and snap ring groove geometry.
Bolt circle — the diameter of the bolt pattern on the flange face (e.g., 2.938", 3.125", 4.000"). Must match your companion flange exactly.
Bolt count and size — typically 4-bolt or 6-bolt in grades from 3/8" to 1/2" SAE or metric equivalents.

Off-square installation — caused by a flange yoke with unequal ear height or bore misalignment — creates phase errors that generate first-order vibration.
