The 3326-40 is the steel counterpart to the aluminum 3326-405A, sharing the same 4.000" tube diameter and 0.083" wall but offering approximately 2.5x the fatigue life under cyclic bending loads. Steel is the correct choice when the driveshaft operates at high working angles (above 6 degrees) or in heavy-duty towing applications where thermal cycling stresses the tube-to-yoke weld.
