At 2.125" center-to-base height, the 9980-54 is among the taller Subaru center bearing assemblies, used on applications where the crossmember sits higher relative to the propshaft -- typical of lifted or higher-riding Subaru models such as the Outback and Forester with higher-set crossmember geometry.
The 30 mm bore is consistent across the Subaru AWD propshaft range, but the center-to-base height varies significantly between models and trim levels. One common error is using a 9980-51 or 9980-52 (both with 0.750" height) on an application that requires the 2.125" 9980-54 -- the result is the propshaft sitting 1.375" below its design axis at the center joint, creating a severe angle condition that destroys the center bearing within 5,000 miles. Subaru OEM cross-references in the 27471 and 27480 series; confirm via model code and production date.
