5-7438XU -- 1330 x 1330F Combination U-Joint for Ford Applications
A combination (or "combo") U-joint uses two different cap diameters on the same cross -- one pair of caps seats in a 1330 standard bore and the other pair seats in a 1330F (Ford) big-cap bore. The 1.125" cap on the Ford end is larger than the 1.063" standard 1330 cap; using a standard 1330 joint (two 1.063" caps on both axes) in a Ford big-cap yoke leaves the caps undersize in the bore, causing rapid failure. The 5-7438XU solves this without requiring the replacement of the entire yoke assembly.
The greaseable fitting (zerk) on this joint extends service life in high-cycle or off-road applications -- regrease at the manufacturer's recommended interval or whenever water contamination is suspected. Cross-reference: Spicer 5-7438X, Dana B-series Ford applications. Confirm which end of the driveshaft receives the big-cap yoke before installation -- installing the joint backwards puts the wrong cap size in each bore. Use with the appropriate flange yoke or weld yoke.
