3380-15 -- Ford F150 (1996--2001) Center Support Bearing With 0.5" Spacer
The 3380-15 is specifically engineered for the 1996--2001 Ford F150, a generation known for a frame crossmember geometry that positions the hanger bracket slightly higher than later F150 designs. The included 0.5" spacer compensates for this offset, placing the center support bearing centerline exactly on the driveshaft axis when the bracket is torqued to spec.
A very common mistake on this application is sourcing a generic F150 center bearing without the spacer, then attempting to shim it with washers. Stacked washers under the bracket distort the bracket mounting flanges and introduce an eccentric load path, leading to bracket cracking within 20,000--30,000 miles. The 3380-15 integrates the correct spacer as a matched unit, eliminating this failure mode.
After installation, verify the driveshaft phasing by confirming the front and rear U-joint yokes are in phase with each other. Ford two-piece driveshafts are factory phased and marked -- look for alignment paint marks on the stub shaft and slip yoke. Ford OEM reference: F65Z-4B368-AA series for 1996--2001 F150.
