Application notes: Mercedes-Benz uses 30 mm propshaft stub shaft journals on a range of passenger car and small van configurations. The 3180-50 at 2.375" center-to-base height covers applications where the tunnel crossmember bracket requires this drop -- more common on larger Mercedes sedan and wagon models than on compact class vehicles. Mercedes propshaft center bearings incorporate a specific snap ring groove on the stub shaft; after installation, confirm the retaining ring is fully seated in the groove on the inboard side of the bearing inner race. A snap ring that is not fully seated allows axial propshaft movement under acceleration, felt as a clunk from the tunnel area.
