Full Description
The 3180-45 is an aftermarket upgrade unit using a billet aluminum bracket with a polyurethane isolator in place of the OEM rubber compound. This construction is an alternative to standard rubber-isolated center support bearing assemblies for Chevy applications where the factory rubber isolator deteriorates prematurely.
- Billet aluminum outer bracket: resists corrosion and deformation better than stamped steel OEM brackets
- Polyurethane isolator: higher durometer than rubber, providing increased stiffness and resistance to oil and heat degradation
- Trade-off: stiffer polyurethane transmits more driveshaft vibration to the chassis than a correctly-tuned rubber isolator -- on street vehicles, the increased NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) may be noticeable
- Replaces Spicer OEM rubber isolator design -- confirm the Spicer OEM number applies to your specific Chevy application before ordering
Tip: the polyurethane upgrade is appropriate for off-road, towing-heavy, and performance applications where service life is prioritized over NVH. For daily-driven street vehicles, the stock rubber isolator compound provides better vibration isolation when correctly dimensioned. Match the application to the isolator type.
