The 3.500" center-to-base height makes the 3180-47 one of the taller units in the 1310-series lineup. This tall bracket is required when the crossmember sits significantly above the driveshaft centerline -- a design common in body-on-frame trucks where frame geometry demands a longer drop bracket. Ordering the standard 2.250" unit by mistake results in a driveshaft angled steeply upward at the center joint, creating a second-order vibration.
Verify your application by measuring the distance from the crossmember bolt face to the center of the stub shaft bore. The 1310 series operates with 1.062" U-joint cap diameter. Dana/Spicer 2-26-457 series cross-references may apply depending on exact application year and model. The rubber isolator on tall-bracket units carries more bending moment than short-bracket versions -- inspect the bracket mounting bolts for fatigue cracking around the weld nuts during each inspection interval.
