2880-48 -- Mercedes-Benz Center Support Bearing, 30 mm Bore, 3.000" Drop
At 3.000" center-to-base height, the 2880-48 is one of the taller Mercedes-Benz center bearing assemblies in the 30 mm bore range. This height is used on Mercedes models where the floor tunnel crossmember sits significantly above the propshaft centerline -- typical of larger Mercedes sedans and wagon variants with deeper tunnel structures.
The 3.000" drop bracket introduces measurable bending moment at the crossmember fastener location. On vehicles that see high-cycle use (taxis, fleet vehicles), the crossmember mounting threads fatigue faster than on private use vehicles. Check the crossmember thread engagement depth before installation -- if the threads show pull-out damage from a previous over-torque event, the crossmember insert must be replaced (Helicoil or equivalent) before the new center support bearing is installed.
