Full Description
The 2780-80 is calibrated for BMW propshaft applications where the hanger bracket sits only 1.625" from the center of the bearing to the mounting base. This low-profile dimension is typical of compact and mid-size BMW models where the transmission tunnel restricts available bracket height. Installing a taller unit forces the propshaft upward at the center joint, creating an angle misalignment that produces a vibration at motorway speeds above 60 mph.
- Bore ID: 1.378" (35 mm) -- verify with a micrometer against the stub shaft journal
- Center to base: 1.625" -- verify against the removed bearing before ordering
- Rubber isolator: bonded construction, purpose-engineered for BMW propshaft harmonic frequencies
- BMW OEM cross-references in the 26 12 1 229 series depending on model and production year
- The center support bearing inner race is pressed onto the stub shaft -- use a hydraulic press and a correct-diameter bearing driver; never use an impact hammer
Warning: BMW propshaft rubber isolators use a specific durometer compound tuned for the model's driveline frequency. Generic rubber isolators from non-OEM-equivalent suppliers often have incorrect stiffness, resulting in a residual vibration even after correct installation.
