At 1.325" center-to-base height, the 2780-62 is among the more compact BMW center bearing assemblies. This short dimension is used on BMW applications where tunnel packaging constraints reduce the available bracket drop. A notable engineering trade-off at this height: the reduced isolator mass and shorter rubber column provide less vibration attenuation than taller assemblies with larger isolator volume. This is by BMW design for these specific models -- the stiffer short-column isolator is tuned to damp the propshaft resonant frequency of the specific chassis rather than providing maximum isolation.
BMW OEM references in the 26 12 1 229 and 26 12 7 500 families may apply depending on chassis code and production date. Verify the center-to-base measurement of the removed bearing: 1.325" is distinct from the 1.375" dimension used on some GM applications -- do not substitute across applications.
