Q: My BMW has a 1.625" center-to-base bearing -- how do I know if I need the 2780-25 or the 2780-80, which has the same listed dimensions? A: The 2780-25 and 2780-80 share the same bore (1.378") and the same center-to-base height (1.625"), but differ in bracket configuration -- mounting hole spacing, bracket arm angle, or isolator geometry. Confirm by matching the BMW OEM part number from the removed bearing assembly. The easiest approach is to photograph the old unit and compare the bracket profile.
Q: Can I use a domestic aftermarket center bearing as a substitute for the BMW center support bearing? A: No. Domestic center bearing isolators are calibrated for propshaft frequencies typical of V8 trucks at much lower RPM. BMW inline-6 and inline-4 propshafts operate at a higher frequency range; substituting a domestic isolator results in a vibration resonance at a specific RPM band that the correct BMW isolator suppresses.
