- 0.250" is the smallest center-to-base height in the 2780 BMW series -- used where the crossmember is virtually flush with the propshaft centerline
- Any mounting that substitutes a taller unit raises the propshaft above its designed axis, creating a constant-velocity angle error at the center joint
- Bore ID 1.378" (35 mm) -- verify OD of stub shaft journal before installation
- Fastener access may be restricted at this height -- use a low-profile torque wrench or a crowfoot fitting to reach the bracket bolts
Warning: at 0.250" center-to-base height, the bracket base flange is almost directly against the bearing outer housing. Over-torquing the bracket bolts will squeeze the rubber isolator between the flange faces, permanently compressing and hardening the isolator material. Torque to spec only -- typically 20--25 Nm for M8 fasteners on BMW propshaft brackets.
