At 0.04 inch (approximately 1mm), the 2715-692 is a thin shim used when the primary shim selection leaves a residual endplay that needs a fine correction. In selective assembly processes for U-joint overhaul, technicians use a primary shim to get close to the endplay target, then add a thin shim like the 2715-692 to fine-tune the final value.

Never stack more than two shims in a single bearing cup position -- the joint will use a shim pack that is unstable and may compress under load, changing the endplay during operation. If the endplay requires more than two shims, investigate whether the yoke bore has worn beyond acceptable limits.
