PM-PATROL-Cl -- Custom Length Aluminum Driveshaft for Nissan Patrol 4WD

Aluminum driveshafts reduce rotational inertia compared to steel, which lowers the gyroscopic resistance during steering articulation on a solid-front-axle 4WD like the Nissan Patrol. The trade-off is that aluminum tube is more sensitive to bending loads from driveline angles above the recommended operating range -- verify the U-joint angles are within specification after any suspension lift before finalizing the shaft length. Tube diameter for this application is specified at order time; the PM-PATROL-Cl designation covers the custom-length configuration.

When measuring for a custom driveshaft length, measure the distance between the U-joint centerlines with the suspension at the mid-travel (ride height) position, not at full droop or full jounce. Use a shaft with a minimum of 1.000" of slip travel beyond the at-rest compressed position to account for suspension compression. Insufficient slip travel causes the shaft to bottom out and push the transmission rearward, damaging the output bearing.

For the Nissan Patrol specifically, verify whether the transfer case output is a slip yoke or a fixed flange -- early GQ/Y60 models used a fixed flange output, while GU/Y61 and later variants introduced slip yoke outputs on some configurations. Providing the chassis year and transfer case model at order time ensures the correct end configuration is supplied.
