- Durango and Grand Cherokee with two-piece rear driveshafts commonly require this center bearing replacement at 80,000--120,000 miles
- 1.181" (30 mm) bore -- verify stub shaft OD before pressing; Chrysler stub shafts corrode at the bearing journal in salt-belt vehicles
- A characteristic failure on these platforms: the rubber isolator separates from the outer metal bracket (not just cracks), caused by road salt attacking the bonding surface
- After replacement, apply underbody spray to the bracket to protect the isolator bond from future salt exposure
Tip: the Durango and Grand Cherokee center bearing sits close to the exhaust system on some configurations. When reinstalling, verify the minimum clearance between the exhaust and the bearing bracket is at least 25 mm (1") to prevent heat damage to the rubber isolator over time.
