The nose bushing on a Land Rover Discovery driveshaft is the rubber-bonded sleeve that mounts the center stub shaft into the front driveshaft's rear section. When this bushing fails, the center stub shaft develops radial play, creating a clunking noise during direction changes and low-speed maneuvering -- often misdiagnosed as a differential or transfer case issue on the Discovery.

Inspect the companion stub shaft for fretting wear before pressing the new 3019-220 into position. A worn shaft journal reduces the effective interference fit of the new bushing. If the shaft shows polishing or material loss at the bushing contact area, the shaft must be replaced or the new bushing will have insufficient retention force.
