The 2880-31 at 3.000" center-to-base height overlaps with the 2880-48 (also 3.000" and 1.181" bore) -- both units serve different applications through bracket profile differences. Confirm the correct SKU via the OEM part number from the removed bearing.
Tall-bracket center bearings like the 2880-31 are mechanically sensitive to the torque sequence at installation. The correct procedure is: (1) attach the bracket to the crossmember finger-tight, (2) reinstall the driveshaft completely, (3) allow the driveshaft to hang under its own weight to find its natural position, (4) then torque the bracket fasteners to specification. Torquing the bracket before the driveshaft weight is applied pre-loads the rubber isolator in a position that differs from the operating position, causing asymmetric isolator wear and early failure. This installation sequence applies to all tall-bracket assemblies where the isolator weight and arm moment affect the natural center position.
