The 2780-35 sits at one of the taller center-to-base heights in the BMW 2780 series (2.500"), which places it in rear-axle configurations where the driveshaft tunnel hanger is mounted higher relative to the propshaft centerline. Substituting a 2780-30 or 2780-20 (shorter base heights) in this application droops the rear propshaft section and pushes the rear U-joint working angles beyond the 3-degree maximum recommended for high-speed operation.
The rubber isolator bonded to the bearing housing absorbs propshaft NVH. If the old unit showed cracking or separation of the rubber from the steel carrier, inspect the tunnel bracket for corrosion or deformation that may have caused isolator failure in the first place.
