ATU5125 -- 5.000" x 0.125" Aluminum 6061-T6 Tube

Aluminum alloy 6061-T6 driveshaft tubing reduces rotating mass compared to equivalent-diameter steel. At 5.000" OD with a 0.125" wall, ATU5125 is a large-diameter thin-wall tube optimized for critical-speed performance. Larger diameters raise the driveshaft first critical speed -- the RPM at which the shaft resonates in bending -- which is why aluminum and large OD tubes are common in single-piece long-shaft builds. 6061-T6 properties relevant to driveshaft use: yield strength of approximately 35,000 psi versus 36,000-40,000 psi for DOM steel, but at roughly one-third the density. The lower density allows a larger OD tube to reach critical speed limits well above the operating range without the weight penalty of an equivalent steel tube.
