Full Description
ATU45108 is a 4.550" OD x 0.108" wall 6061-T6 aluminum tube, 70" in length, with one end swedged to 5.000" OD. Swedging is a cold-forming process that expands the tube end to a larger diameter without welding or adding material -- the transition creates a one-piece section connecting two different OD requirements in a single shaft.
Applications for a swedged tube include:
- Custom single-piece shafts where the front connection requires a larger OD than the main body
- Connecting to a larger-diameter yoke while maintaining a smaller main tube OD for clearance
- Performance builds where eliminating a center section joint reduces total shaft weight
The expanded end at 5.000" accommodates yokes or slip assemblies designed for that OD, while the 4.550" body maintains inertia advantages of a smaller tube. This is fabrication-oriented tube stock requiring finish machining and welding by a qualified driveshaft builder.
