The 3-86-88S is a UDS threaded rubber dust cap for 1410 series slip yoke applications with a 1.375x16 spline stop shaft — 1.375-inch diameter, 16 splines. This screw-on cap seals the open end of the slip yoke's spline bore cavity against water, road salt, and debris that accelerate corrosion on the stop shaft and yoke internal splines. The 1410 series is widely used in 3/4-ton and 1-ton truck rear driveshaft configurations and in transfer case output applications on heavy 4WD platforms.
The 1.375x16 spline specification governs fitment: the stop shaft must be 1.375 inches in major diameter with 16 splines. This is the same spline diameter as 1350 series hardware (1350 and 1410 share 1.375-inch stop shaft diameters in many applications), but the 1410 series U-joint is wider than 1350 (4.188" vs. 3.625") and the stop shaft lengths may differ. Verify the threaded bore dimension of your specific slip yoke matches the 3-86-88S thread profile — some 1410 yokes use a larger-diameter threaded bore if the stop shaft is physically longer. The 1410 series is standard equipment in heavy light-truck and medium-duty truck rear driveshaft applications. Dust cap failure in this application typically presents as grease ejected from the slip yoke end of the driveshaft — visible as grease spray on the undercarriage behind the transmission. Replace 3-86-88S immediately upon detecting this condition to prevent spline corrosion from progressing to a seized slip joint.
Thread 3-86-88S on by hand until the cap face contacts the yoke bore seat. Do not use a wrench — rubber cap threads tear at modest torque.
