2580-40 Audi CSB: Bore 1.181" — Center-to-base 1.625" — Mount span 5.125" C-to-C
The 5.125" mount hole span on the 2580-40 is the narrowest in the Audi 2580 center support bearing series. This narrow bracket geometry appears on earlier or compact Audi AWD models with a narrower tunnel crossmember. Do not confuse it with the 2580-45 (7.500" span) or 2580-50 (7.375" span) -- despite similar heights, the mount geometry is completely different.
A common installation error on Audi carriers: technicians torque the bracket bolts while the propshaft is lifted to align with the differential flange. This compresses the rubber isolator in a downward direction before any load is applied. The correct procedure is to bolt the bracket loosely, allow the propshaft to hang free, then torque to spec so the isolator is in its neutral (unloaded) geometry.
